Day 10

Day 10

Branch of Jesse by Wilder P. | FSM Student

Isaiah 11:1—10

Isaiah is an Old Testament prophet whose words pointed to the future Messiah. He told God’s people about the Rescuer that God promised Adam and Eve. And Isaiah 11 describes a new, transformed reality that the Messiah would bring. He describes God’s people back in perfect relationship with Him.

This new reality—called a “holy mountain by the name of Zion”—was a departure from the typical leadership models of the time. Israel had been governed by a series of disastrous Kings—eventually leading them into fragmentation, oppression, and humiliating exile.

But Isaiah prophesies about a new paradigm where God’s people won’t be governed by a mighty King but rather that “a child shall lead them.” He tells of a society where the humble and meek are exalted.

This new ruler will bring God’s Kingdom down to Earth, where everyone can know and praise God—and this ruler is Jesus! In His Kingdom, we are called to live at peace with our neighbors and to reject selfishness.

Truly, this is a calling worth pursuing not just at Christmastime but every day.
