Day 11

Day 11

Wait for the Lord by Alan R.

Psalm 130:5—8

Waiting… who likes to wait? And who needs to anymore? I can access everything from the phone in my hand. It’s just not culturally acceptable to have to wait any longer.

But waiting is exactly what the Israelites were doing. And they were not just waiting, but anticipating… expecting… longing for… aching for their Messiah. Like the watchmen who endure through the dark night, counting on the coming safety and refuge of dawn, the chosen people of God depended on the promise of a future deliverer.

We have the fortune of living in a reality where the deliverer has come. We have been rescued. But it’s not always easy to feel that way. Instead, we too are charged with waiting. Waiting for Jesus to finish the renewal of the whole world, washing away our worry, heartache, and pain.

May we use this Advent season to practice the posture of the psalmist. May we await with certainty, knowing that the day is coming.

And in the meantime, let us live with generosity and hope—like citizens of God’s coming Kingdom. Jesus, our hope is in you. May we find peace and patience in your promises.
