Day 12

Day 12

Origins of Old by Jason C.

Micah 5:2–4

God’s timing is so unlike our own. The Bible tells us that a thousand years is like a day to God, and a day is like a thousand years. He does not work according to our timetables—as Micah’s prophecy reminds us.

Micah is writing seven centuries before the Messiah arrives, and his words were just as likely to bring concern as comfort! Yes, he says that a ruler from ancient days will come, but not before Israel goes through severe trials.

He likens the coming of the Messiah to childbirth—hardly reassuring. How can we have hope when we know God isn’t in a hurry? His final reign is not guaranteed to arrive before we meet our own end.

How can we hope when the bills exceed the bank account balance, or the doctors say that there is no treatment left to try? Only if we place our hope in One who has already proven Himself trustworthy.

Even in Micah’s day, God’s people could hope because He had already been faithful—when they were faithless. He had already rescued them against all odds before!

We can have the same hope. He has us shown that He is true to His word—even when it meant giving his own life. He is a Truth-Teller and Promise-keeper.
