Day 1

Day 1

Gift of God by Jordan S.

Genesis 1:1–10

What comes to mind when you ponder nothing? Eventually, something—darkness, blackness, or even space! The first people reading these verses might have said something like “the ocean” or “dark, chaotic waters.”

It was a place of danger and nothingness, where you wouldn’t want to find yourself alone without a way home. Take a moment and picture verse two and notice that the Spirit of God is in control. Right here at the beginning of the creation account, He reveals Himself to us. No tricks, no riddles.

You can tell a whole lot about an artist by the art they create. In the same way, God’s character echoes through His creation. So, who is God? What is He like? Where there is emptiness, He gives us abundance. Where there is chaos, He gives us order. Do you see it?

He gives us light so we can see, night so we can rest, air so we can breathe, and ground so we can walk! This beautiful tapestry of creation is woven before we’re even in the picture. There is no earning it.

With every striking sunset, serene forest, and snow-capped mountain, God gives and gives and gives. The beauty of this world is a gift, and He wants us to receive it!
