Day 2

Day 2

Genesis 1:11–25

When I was younger, I found many of the well-known passages in the Bible overplayed and boring. This is especially easy to do if you have attended church for a long time. The creation narrative used to be one of those worn-out stories for me. And then I found John 1:1–3.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made.”

John is writing about Christ in this passage! This passage attests to a foundational truth: Jesus and God are one—along with the Holy Spirit—and they were together at the creation of our world.

Seen though this lens, the old creation story in Genesis took on a new life: every beautiful thing mentioned in Genesis 1 was made through Christ. And later, all of creation was redeemed by Christ!

The maker of the universe inhabited His world and then died for that world—for you and me. There is no way we will ever repay Him; the only thing we can do is live for Him and trust in His plan. During Advent, we remember that our Creator and Redeemer is making all things new!
