Day 5

Day 5

Breath of Life by William W. | FSM Student

Genesis 2:4–17

In Genesis 2, God just finished creating the world and everything in it. God seems different to me in these passages; so powerful and with such complete authority over everything that He seems like He would be distant and unrelated to us.

The name “Elohim” is used 30 times in Genesis 1—it means “Creator God.” But in Chapter 2, God’s name is changed to “Yahweh”—meaning Lord God. That’s a more relational name for God! God keeps getting closer and closer to humanity.

In verse 7, God creates a man out of the dust of the ground, breathes into his nostrils, and then man became a living being. Wow! This is amazing! God formed man with intentionality and in great intimacy. He literally breathed into his nostrils (what if His breath smelled bad? That’s a question for another time).

God was physically and spiritually close to humanity. And it’s not just Adam who God created. Psalms 139:13 says that God knit each and every one of us together in our mother’s womb. God created us to be in relationship with Him.

This week, ask yourself if you are living as God created you to live—alive physically AND spiritually through intimacy with Him?
