Day 9

Day 9

Brother’s Keeper by Dawson P.

Genesis 4:1—15

After leaving the garden, Adam and Eve raised their boys to watch out for sin. They knew how it could so quickly shatter God’s good creation.

But when Cain brought his leftovers to God, and he was rejected, Cain gave in to sin. He murdered his brother and instantly understood the devastating effect of sin that his parents had warned him about. And Cain isn’t the only one to discover this.

People have never stopped sinning—miring God’s good creation in death. God is heartbroken—but a holy God cannot ignore sin. God doesn’t ignore Abel’s murder; Cain is punished. However, God’s judgement is not without mercy. We should be glad of this! Some days we are the sinner and other days the one who suffers, but God never forgets anyone.

The gift of Christmas is proof that God always remembers and loves His creation, even when all we see is the muddy mess of sin. Today, may we make God the ruler of our lives and be “our brother’s keepers” to our community and world.
